Work Experience
Work experience provides a number of benefits for children and young people. It enables students to learn about the world of work in a real-life working environment. With this in mind, St. Mary's Catholic Federation, Carshalton is supportive of students from other schools and colleges wishing to undertake their work experience here.
Availability for placements is dealt with on a 'first come, first served' basis, and we endeavour to offer as many placements as we can.
The types of activities that work experience students can be involved in include:
- Early Years (playing with young children and supporting their learning through indoor and outdoor play);
- KS1 reading help;
- KS2 reading help.
- KS1 resource help;
- Resource room assistant (making learning resources: photocopying, cutting, computer generated resources);
- Lunchtime games;
- Supporting on class Trips;
- Working with children from EYFS through to KS2 in small groups;
- Observed teaching (for teaching student placements ONLY)
Safeguarding is a very important part of our school, and it is imperative that we ensure our systems and procedures for accepting work experience students into school is effective. Therefore, there is a clear 3-step procedure, shown below, for anyone wishing to help in our school.
If you need help or support with any of the steps please do let us know.
1. Submit an enquiry, Email either school office (Infant School - office@stmarysinfschool.org.uk or Junior School - office@stmarysjunior.org.uk) with your name, school, dates of Work Experience requested and a short paragraph about why you would like to choose our school.
2. If there is availability, an offer of work experience will be confirmed via email.
3. A telephone call will be made prior to your placement beginning to run through the neccessary requirements.
