Year 3 Admissions

St Mary’s is a Voluntary Aided Federation in the Archdiocese of Southwark. It was opened to serve the Catholic community, in particular, the children of practising Catholic families living in the parishes of Holy Cross, Carshalton, Our Lady of the Rosary, Sutton, St Margaret’s of Scotland, Carshalton Beeches, and Holy Family, Sutton Green.

Parents elect to apply for this school in order to ensure that the Catholic values and way of life are passed on to their children at home, in the parish and at school.

St. Mary's Catholic Junior school intend to admit 90 children into Year 3 each academic year (depending on need and applications received).

N.B. Pupils attending St. Mary's Nursery & Infant School are still required to complete an application to the junior school. 

Applications for  2025 - 2026

Applications for Junior (Year 3) 2025 - 2026 closed on 15th January 2025.

You can still apply for Junior (Year 3) September 2025/2026 by downloading, completing and returning the Year 3 (Junior)  Supplementary Information Form 2025/26, along with a copy of your child's Baptism Certificate (if they are Baptised). You will also need to apply through your local authority (https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/

We will contact you if/when placements becomes available.

The best way to find out about our school is to come and see us. 

We welcome visits to our school before application and hold open days on a monthly basis throughout the year, where small groups of parents/carers may visit for a tour.

This will give you the opportunity to see our schools on a typical day and to ask any questions as you walk around.

Year 3 (Junior) 2026/27

Children born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019 are due to start primary school in September 2026.

  • Applications open on 1st September 2025.
  • Applications close on 15th January 2026.
  • Reception Allocations are announced on National Primary Offer day on 17th April 2026.

Year 3 (Junior) applications MUST be made through your local authority as well as completing the Admission Administration Document and providing one of the following:

  • Catholic children should submit a Certificate of Catholic Practice (CCP) or a copy of the Baptismal certificate or letter of reception into the Catholic Church, as relevant. Please refer to Appendix 4: Evidence of Catholic Practice.
  • Baptised children from Eastern Orthodox Churches should submit a copy of the Baptismal certificate for the child and evidence of membership.
  • Those of other faiths should submit a certificate of Baptism/dedication and/ evidence of membership.

NB. A place in the Year 2 does not guarantee a place in the Year 3 (Juniors) and you will need to re-apply for your child's school.

Appeals

Parents with unsuccessful applications for Year 3 in September 2026 may:

  • apply to go on our waiting list (please contact your Local Authority)
  • appeal against our decision, notify us within 20 days of receiving the noficiation (please contact admissions@stmarysjunior.org.uk
  • appeal deadlines is 4th June 2026

Parents/carers whose applications for places at the junior school are unsuccessful may appeal to an independent Appeal Panel set up in accordance with section 85(3) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. Appeals must be made in writing and msut set out the reasons on which the appeal is made. Appeals should be made to the Admissions Appeal Clerk at the school address. Parents/Carers have the right to make oral representations to the Appeal Panel.
