Achievements Outside of School

22nd September 2024

This weekend a large group of current and former St. Mary's students took part in the WEstminster Mile in connection with the Vitality 10km race. 

It was great to see students from reception all the way through to Alumni coming together to run in such a lovely event. 

 

8th September 2024

O, G Y and A in Yr 5 and E in Yr 3 took part in the Westcroft Aquathlon this weekend. It was a great event which welcomed triathletes from a number of clubs from all over London. O and E both came 2nd in their events, G came 3rd in his and A came in 7th in his eventan extremely strong field.

E (6C) completed the 15 mile Marsden March again yesterday and raised £210 for the Royal Marsden Hospital. she completed it in 4.5 hours (including drink/snack/toilet breaks!). We are so proud of her.

Over the weekend H and E completed a 5k inflatable run in Guildford. Both winning medals, which they are so proud of. Well done to H and E, What an amazing achievement!

Vincent (3M), Jack (3W) and Alfie (3M) played for the same team in Sutton Little League season 2023/2024.

The season is now finished and their team; Team Lancasters- won their league for season 23/24 and! they won the annual Cup Final last Saturday (27th April) as well!

We are very proud of all the boys for their commitment and hard work throughout the year, excellent team work.

We are so proud of J the little eco warrior who decided to litter pick on his way home from school. There had been a lot of littering over Wrythe Green and he felt it his duty to "clean up the world" (what amazing St Mary's spirit!)

     

 

8th Febraury 2024

We are very proud of how well Elise is doing with the British Theatre Academy (BTA). Over the last year she has performed at the Chequer Mead theatre in Frozen the musical and Shrek the musical.

She has now been selected to be part of a team representing BTA at the Junior Theatre Festival in Birmingham this May, performing extracts from Godspell in front of performers and directors from the West End and other young performers from across the UK  and beyond.

E ran the St Raphael's 5km Santa Dash in Nonsuch Park today (Sunday) and surprised herself how much she enjoyed it. She didn't stop running except to tie her laces and smiled most of the way round.

O getting his purple belt at Kung Fu this weekend. He only started last year and now has his 5th belt. O has also been learning how to use tonfas and has just started training with a sword, wooden but still!. We are very proud of him and his progress.

Diabetes UK

A walked 10 miles over all the bridges in London with her family for Diabetes UK. This is a charity very close to the hearts of A's family and they raised a fantastic total of £900! A huge well done to all the family who took part.

We are so proud of O & K and their wonderful achievements at Lifeline Netball Team.

O was awarded Coaches player of the year and k also got a medal!

ROSE C-S WINS SURREY CHESS MEGAFINAL

St Mary's Junior School reigning chess champion, Rose C-S (Year 5), put in a tremendous performance in the Surrey 'Megafinal', the second stage of the 2023 UK Chess Challenge. She won all six of her games to win the under-10 girls section and received a handsome trophy.

Chess Club teacher, Marcus Gosling, commented: "I am absolutely delighted for Rose. I know she has been practising a lot at home and I am pleased that the hard work she is putting into her chess is paying off. I have been impressed by Rose's enthusiasm for the game and her good sportsmanship. I am sure this will only be the start of her chess journey".

Rose will now progress to the next stage of the competition, known at the 'Gigafinal', and hopes to continue her good form by retaining her title of school champion this term.

Clapham Gymnastic Compeition

S following her wins at the Clapham Gymnastics Competition this weekend. Representing Future Gymnastics, S took 1st place in the vault competition,  and 4th place in the overall competition for her age group. To top things off, she also won a price for displaying her competition number in the most creative way.

Royal Marsden Cancer Charity - The Marsden March

EC has raised hundreds of pounds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity by baking and selling dog biscuits and also completing the 15 mile Marsden March. We are all very proud of EC and what she has achieved.

Mini marathon 

We are absolutely delighted that 100 members of our school community will be taking part in the mini marathon on Saturday morning. We want to wish everyone the best of luck for the event and we cannot wait to see everyone proudly wearing their medals at school on Monday!

Top of the Form Quiz

On Tuesday afternoon, our Top of the Form quiz team took part in the second round of the Sutton Schools competition. They were away to Brookfield Academy and did extremely well to win 55-50 and secure a place in the quarter-finals. Our squad is made up of Michael, Niamh, Jia, Alice and Jethro, all in Year 6, and their general knowledge is impressive to see - they represent the school very well! Thanks to all the parents who took them to the event and cheered them on.

Top of the Form Competition

Yesterday, our Year 6 quiz team took part in the Top of the Form competition, which is open to all primary schools in Sutton. We were drawn against The Avenue and the match ebbed and flowed before finally ending in a tie. This meant that it went to a 'sudden death' round and we just about emerged on top! Well done to all the team who showed their fantastic general knowledge and we look forward to the next round.

Parkrun

A huge well done to all those who took part in parkrun this week. A fantastic run from Louis and Poppy, who was joined by a new face this week! Well done to Aaron for taking part in his first parkrun in such a brilliant time. With a cross-country event next week, we are looking forward to lots more people taking part at the weekend!

Parkrun

A great weekend of Parkrun, with some pupils squeezing in the last bit of warm morning sunshine before autumn hits. Louis took on the 5km this week, running a truly brilliant time and completing this distance for the first time ever. Poppy followed quickly behind and ran a PB on Sunday morning in the junior parkrun. October is the month of the London Marathon and it would be great to see lots of our pupils mark this occasion by taking part in parkrun throughout this month, perhaps set a challenge to run a marathon during the month of October. A huge well done to Louis and Poppy this week and we look forward to hearing about many more of you taking part in parkrun this weekend!

What a great summer of parkrun! We had lots of children continue to be involved in this great event over the 6 week break. A huge well done to Louis, Poppy, Keeva and Roco who took part. Big congratulations to Finley who won parkrun during the holidays! Please let the school know if we have missed anyone out and we will ensure to include you next week. We are looking forward to seeing many more names in the results list on Sunday.

ParkRun

Do not forget - parkrun continues to take place every Saturday at 9am for the 5km event and every Sunday at 9am for the 2km event. We hope you all continue this over the summer holidays and come back in September fighting fit for crosscountry! We are proud of every pupil who has given this a go and continue to work hard to achieve PBs, with good commitment; you can do anything you set your mind to.

J N (4 Rowan) competed with his team, the Carshalton Athletic U9 Yellows, in the Tournament of Dreams Richmond & Kew FC Summer 5-a-side tournament at the weekend. They beat lots of other teams to become the runners-up and received silver trophies for their achievement.

Congratulations to Ronan and Darcey who won U9’s and U7’s Player of the Tournament playing for Round Towers GAA, at their home Blitz last weekend. What a fabulous achievement for you both, it sounds like it was a lot of fun and we’re so proud of you!

Rugby Achievements

Congratulations to all of our pupils who play for Sutton and Epsom RFC, who collected their medals at the weekend for taking part this season. Well done for persevering through the season and challenging yourselves! A special well done to Will who won U8’s player of the season and Ollie who won U6 ‘respect’ player of the year. A fantastic achievement, we’re all very proud of you both!

Butlins ESF football tournament

 

L, R and H in 4 Rowan all played in the Butlins ESF football tournament at the weekend with their football team Carshalton Athletic. The boys played 7 matches across the weekend. The standard was very high, but the boys played really well and ended up finishing 4th in their group. They were lucky enough to be awarded their trophies by the ex-England and Arsenal player Paul Merson

Grayes Show ‘We’re Still Standing’

 

A lot of students from both schools performed in the Grayes dance school performance in the Easter holiday, including three pupils from Sparrow class performing ballet. It was hard work and they had a technical rehearsal, dress rehearsal and then five performances over a week at the Epsom playhouse. We are so proud of you all. Well done!

Swimming Accomplishment

 

A huge congratulation to Yara in 4 Rowan for gaining her Angelfish swimming badge! What a fantastic achievement and we are absolutely thrilled she shared this brilliant milestone with us. Keep up the great work Yara and we look forward to hearing about your next swimming badge!

Chess Club - Spring Term Summary

The winner of our termly tournament was Tadhg O (Year 6), who scored 20 points out of 21 - congratulations!

Rugby Festival

Cian played in a rugby festival at the weekend and did so well representing his team! He played on bigger pitches than he was used to and against some very fast opposition but he worked hard and played brilliantly!

Sutton Music Service Spring Concerts

 

During the week some of our pupils had the opportunity to participate in Sutton Music Service Spring concerts, namely the Young Musicians String Group & Young Musicians Training Orchestra.

Charlton in 5 Sycamore and Ailean in 5 Elm achieved their black belt in Kung Fu on 6th of March.

This is a massive achievement and they have both worked really hard.

I had a visitor this week who came to show me a medal they had won at a gymnastics competition. Ava was very proud to share her achievements with me and I loved hearing all about them! It’s so wonderful to hear about all your sporting successes outside of school and a great opportunity to share our talents. I was thrilled to learn about this achievement and I hope many other pupils share these with myself and their class. Well done Ava!
